Authorities in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, are searching for two people after seven oxygen tanks were stolen from a hospital in the southern part of the state this week.

An armed man allegedly entered a hospital in the Sonoran municipality of Navojoa on Tuesday and took medical equipment including seven oxygen tanks being used in a COVID-19 unit.

According to authorities, the man threatened an employee with a firearm, asked where he could find oxygen tanks, then fled with the stolen goods in a white sedan being driven by another person. Three of the stolen tanks were full and the other four were empty.

The robbery comes as Sonora faces some of the worst days of the pandemic, with record high numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths reported this week.
