Phoenix GateWay Community College To Award New STEM Scholarships
GateWay Community College in Phoenix is celebrating a new federal grant that will help the college attract more students studying science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
For the first time in its 50-year history, GateWay says it’s received a grant from the National Science Foundation. The college plans to use the $649,7406 to support faculty mentorship and offer extra instruction, including a summer program for students.
“This grant is a major milestone for GateWay and cements our status as one of the preeminent community colleges in the country,” Amy Diaz, interim president and vice president of Academic Affairs, said in a press release. “This type of funding will allow the school to continue to make quality education even more attainable for students who want to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering or math.”
Over the next five years, GateWay says the federal grant will provide scholarships to at least 30 students in STEM programs.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 and provides support to promote the progress of science and to advance national health, prosperity and welfare.
