Extreme weather in other parts of the country is impacting Arizona’s COVID-19 vaccine supply.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, there's been a delay in this week’s shipment of doses.

As a result, some health departments have had to cancel appointments over the next two days.

In a statement, Department of Health Service spokesman Steve Elliott said right now, there are enough Pfizer doses available for state vaccination sites and others giving out that shot to continue uninterrupted. 

Elliott said the Department of Health Service is in regular contact with federal and local partners to monitor the situation. 

Banner Health is operating several vaccine sites in the state. Chief clinical officer Dr. Marjorie Bessel says sites in Maricopa, Coconino and Pinal Counties have enough supplies for this week’s appointments, but she says Gila and Pima county sites may run short.

“If you are a patient with an upcoming appointment, we ask you to continue to watch for either a phone call, a text message or an email if there needs to be a change to your appointment," Bessel said. 

Bessel says it’s not just vaccine doses that have been delayed — shipments of syringes and other other medical equipment for vaccine events are also running behind.
