Maricopa County Recorder’s Office: 3 Attempted To Break Into Election Center
Several people tried to break into the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center’s warehouse in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said Tuesday in a statement.
This was after two individuals had visited the center during business hours on Friday asking for voter registration forms and to take pictures of the building.
According to the Recorder's Office, "one of these individuals returned, accompanied by two others. Camera footage shows that those three attempted to unlawfully pry open our warehouse doors, but were unsuccessful."
Democratic Rep. Reginald Bolding says this behavior stems from the former president’s false claims of election fraud.
"It’s time for us as leaders of our community to stand up and say that the big lie we heard from Donald Trump was false, and it’s time to recreate a democracy where everyone can believe in the system," Bolding said.
Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer says all ballots were legally cast and not tampered with. He says the group that attempted the break-in also climbed into the dumpster and removed trash.
"I want to be very clear," Richer said in the statement, "I can say with 100% certainty that the 2.1 million legally voted ballots from the November General Election are safe and accounted for in the Elections Department vault, under 24/7 surveillance."
