Arizona Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould announced his retirement on Friday after a 30-year legal career. Gould has worked in Arizona for over 20 years, including four years as a state Supreme Court Justice appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey.

He was retained to the Arizona Supreme Court in November’s election and began his second term in January. Gould will leave his seat on April 1.

Arizona’s merit selection system gives the state’s appellate nominating commission 60 days from April 1 to screen qualified candidates to replace Gould.

Ducey will have 60 days to choose a justice after receiving the list of qualified candidates.
