As vaccinations continue across the country, many patients report experiencing side effects.

Arizona Public Health Association Executive Director Will Humble says that’s the vaccine just doing it’s job.

“It’s basically tricking your immune system into jumping into action, and the effects that you feel, some people feel, not everybody, is really your immune system doing it’s thing," Humble said.

Humble and the CDC say the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines help the body produce a harmless protein unique to COVID-19. The body then learns the protein is not supposed to be in the body and mounts an immune response to prepare for possibly fighting the coronavirus.

Humble says a person becomes fully protected two weeks after receiving the second vaccine dose.
