The University of Arizona COVID-19 vaccine site is having success in administering doses to Latino and Hispanic community members, officials announced during their Monday weekly press conference. 

"I’m pleased to report that of the people who have come to the university POD, 19% self-identified as either Hispanic, Latino or Latinx," said University President Robert Robbins. That’s compared to vaccination rates of about 4% and 15% statewide and in Pima County, respectively, for this demographic. 

Hispanic and Latinos make up about 30% of the state’s population. 

The university credits this success to encouraging people to answer race and ethnicity questions on the vaccine registration form, and the POD’s convenient hours of operations.

As of Sunday, the UA vaccine site has administered nearly 64,000 doses.
