A new state-run vaccination site is opening at the Yuma Civic Center on March 29. It is the first site managed by the Arizona Department of Health Services outside of Maricopa and Pima County.

State health director Dr. Cara Christ says the new vaccination site will offer fewer appointments initially, but will eventually be able to vaccinate thousands of people per day.

“We’ll offer up to 8000 appointments per week initially, but it does have the capacity for up to 28,000 appointments per week or 4,000 appointments per day,” said Christ.

Christ emphasized that this site, as well as popular sites like State Farm Stadium in Glendale, will be operating indoors due to the upcoming temperature increase.
