Asian Americans In Arizona Gather To Protest Violence Against Community

Community members held a vigil at the Arizona Capitol on March 19, 2021, to mourn the lives of the victims of a shooting in Atlanta. Hate against this community has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Asian American and Pacific Island communities across America have galvanized to demonstrate opposition to violence and aggressions that have ramped up in the last year, including last week’s deadly shootings of six Asian women in the Atlanta area.
Vigils and demonstrations were held throughout the country over the weekend, bringing attention to these issues.
On Friday night, about 250 people gathered in Phoenix.
The Show spoke with Leezah Sun, one of the organizers of the vigil at the state Capitol, for more about what she saw at the event.
