Arizona Diamondbacks President And CEO Derrick Hall Reacts To Ducey's Order
The Arizona Diamondbacks started selling tickets for regular season home games on the same day Gov. Doug Ducey lifted pandemic rules that limit stadium capacity. Ducey’s order came just before reporters got an early peek at the team’s setup for keeping fans safe in 2021.
Chase Field can hold nearly 49,000 fans. But the D-Backs only had permission to fill nearly 12,000 seats for the upcoming home opener.
Team President Derrick Hall said the tickets sold out quickly, and he showed reporters how zip ties have been installed on certain seats to keep a safe distance between baseball fans. Hall said the team would like to offer more game tickets, but safety comes first.
"I can’t see us at this point wanting to go zero to 100 so fast. It doesn’t make sense just to go without restriction at this point," Hall said.
Hall said even if every seat at Chase Field is made available, the Diamondbacks plan to still require masks, and use a new cashless system for buying food, beverages and team gear.
