Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday that the state will partner with disability organizations to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to people with disabilities, their family and caregivers starting this weekend. 

The announcement came two weeks after the Arizona Department of Health Services announced that anyone age 16 or older could get a vaccine.

There were concerns among some disability advocates that would increase competition for appointments. Now, Ability 360, a disability organization in Phoenix, will host the first of these designated vaccine events this weekend. 

The state is partnering with other disability groups to host future vaccination events. Volunteers from the Special Olympics will be on site to help those receiving their shots, along with folks from the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing who will provide sign language interpreters.
