Mexico’s president said he’ll soon take his coronavirus vaccine dose publicly to aid the current effort to inoculate older people.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he hopes a significant portion of the country’s people 60 years and older will have received at least one dose by April 20. But he acknowledged that some are reluctant to do it.

“That’s why I’m going to get vaccinated here,” he said during his morning press conference Friday at the National Palace.

That could come as soon as next, and AMLO — as he is widely known — said he hopes it shows those eligible that it’s safe and effective. The number of daily vaccine doses administered has been much higher in recent days, with more than 530,000 given Wednesday, a new record.
