Kingman officials are still investigating a cyberattack in late February that forced a shutdown of the city’s website and may have compromised users’ personal information.

But, city spokesperson Coleen Haines said it’s now 90% functional with a key component now operational.

“We’ve gotten fully functional for people to pay their utility bills online which is great. Of course we’re still waiving those delinquent fees moving forward as bills were sent out late, but we’re so glad to have at least that portion up and running,” she said.

Haines also said the city hopes forensic investigators will wrap up their investigation in the coming weeks as they are still trying to determine the extent of the malfeasance.

“We’re not sure if it was an email that was corrupted or if it was a link that led an employee to a corrupted website that then caused a cyberattack. The forensic unit is still going through all that information to see if it was exposed or damaged whether it be external customers or internal staff information,” she said.

Utility customers’ late fees will continue to be waived for the near future.
