The English language is undergoing constant change, and major events are often a driver of that. New words entered the vernacular after World War II, 9/11 and Brexit, for example.
The COVID-19 pandemic is no different, as a number of new terms have popped up, and we’ve found fresh uses for words we’ve known for years.
The Show spoke with Cindi SturtzSreetharan, associate professor at Arizona State University and a linguistic anthropologist, to find out how much dramatic events can affect our language.
