The city of Glendale is kicking off a celebration of music this month with an outdoor art installation of hand-decorated guitar cutouts.

The city’s Arts Commission provided downtown merchants with full-sized cutouts and supplies and invited them to share what music means for their business.

Heidi Barriga, special events administrator for the city, said the installation coordinates with live music at Murphy Park on Thursday through Sunday evenings.

“Downtown businesses themselves really see there’s a light at the end of the tunnel hopefully for live events and people getting out of their houses,” she said. “What better way, then outside, in a park, to come enjoy these beautiful pieces and it’s a great promotion for them as well.”

Barriga said the guitar cutouts were provided by a local business and will be returned to downtown merchants so they can still display them after the exhibit closes at the end of the month.
