Arizona State Senate President Karen Fann has made her first public comments on the ongoing audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 election.

Sen. Fann appeared on Channel 8's "Arizona Horizon" to discuss the audit currently being conducted in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

She says the Senate is not responsible for hiring former GOP lawmaker Anthony Kern to count ballots within the audit.

Kern was seen at the Jan. 6 Trump rally before protesters breached the U.S. Capitol in an attempted insurrection.

“I don’t know that it’s a great thing to be honest with you, but he is a citizen, he is a voter, he was never convicted of anything, but it is what it is,” said Fann.

Fann also disputed claims that certain media outlets were barred from covering the audit.

She says she hopes the audit finds nothing wrong with the election, but noted that the state Legislature is ready to write corrective measures if something is found.
