The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 642 new cases of COVID-19 and no new related deaths May 10. Department data tends to be incomplete on Mondays as weekend reporting lags.

On the vaccination front, about 55,000 more shots were given May 9, and the state’s total doses administered is approaching 5.4 million.

At this point, about 43% of the population has received at least one dose.

The share of new COVID-19 cases that are among children has been on the rise.

At the same time, we might see Emergency Use Authorization granted as early as this week for the Pfizer vaccine for kids 12 and older.

To learn about how the virus is affecting kids right now, The Show spoke with Dr. Wassim Ballan, a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
