Journalists Valeria Fernandez and Maritza Felix have been friends for a long time — at the same time as they’ve covered immigration and immigrants in the region for many Spanish-language outlets. But in all of that reporting, they’ve seen something missing — especially for immigrant women.

That’s why they’re combining forces to create a new podcast that launches May 10 called "Comadres Al Aire." In it, they aim to create a community for immigrant women to talk about health issues that are something of a taboo for them normally.

The Show spoke with them both more about the project, which is being done with the support of a Nieman Visiting Fellowship at Harvard University. Fernandez said it’s one that’s been in the works for a long time.

You can hear the new podcast on Spanish-language public radio, Radio Bilingue or anywhere you get your podcasts.
