Survey: Metro Phoenix Travel Plans Higher Than National Average

Phoenix topped all the metro areas in the Census Bureau survey on the question of travel. The Household Pulse Survey found 35% of adults in Valley households planned a trip at least 100 miles away in the next month. The responses were collected between April 28 and May 10.

The survey also found more adults across the Valley are working from home (31.8%) compared to the national average (26.2%).

Metro Phoenix households reporting difficulty in paying usual household expenses dropped from 31.6% in late August 2020 to 26.2%.

Valley respondents also reported a drop in food insecurity with 7.9% of adults saying there was either sometimes or not enough to eat in the last seven days compared to 9% a year ago (April 23 – May 5 2020).

National Highlights From The Census Bureau:

Food Scarcity: 8.7% of American adults lived in households where there was either sometimes or often not enough to eat in the previous seven days.

Difficulty with Household Expenses: 26.7% of adults live in households where it has been somewhat or very difficult to pay usual household expenses in the last seven days.

Child care Disruption: Of adults living in HHs with children, 9.8% were in HHs where children were unable to attend day care/another child care arrangement because of the coronavirus pandemic in the last four weeks.

Children’s Telehealth: Of adults living in households with children, 23.9% were in homes where children had an appointment with a doctor, nurse or other health professional by video or phone in the last four weeks.

Food Assistance from School: Of adults living in households with children enrolled in public/private school, 26.5% were in households where students received food assistance from school in the last seven days.

Household Telehealth: 25.3% of American adults had an appointment with a doctor, nurse, or other health professional by video or by phone in the last four weeks.

Planned Trips: 28.8% of adults are planning to take overnight trips or trips to places more than 100 miles away in the next four weeks.

Expected Loss in Employment Income: 14.1% of American adults expect someone in their household to experience a loss in employment income in the next four weeks.
