Arizona Animal Shelters See Uptick In Pet Returns As Businesses Reopen

Last year, when the pandemic hit there was a wave of pet adoptions as people found themselves alone at home a lot, in need of a project — and maybe a furry friend.

But now people are getting vaccinated and the world is opening up. And shelters nationwide are reporting that those pets are being returned in high numbers.

Alessandra Navidad says she's starting to see that uptick here, and she’s worried it will only get worse when the moratorium on evictions is lifted later this summer.

Navidad is the CEO of the Arizona Animal Welfare League, and The Show spoke with her to learn about how the situation is unfolding here.
