Firefighters battle a two-alarm blaze at Library Iron and Metal Recycling in Phoenix on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

A fire broke out at a recycling yard in Phoenix on Thursday about four miles away from the six-alarm recycling yard fire that broke out last weekend.

The second of the two blazes occurred near McDowell Road and 19th Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

While last week’s fire prompted the largest response in Phoenix Fire Department history, Captain Todd Keller says this fire was more easily contained.

“This one we had a lot of help in the beginning from the company that was there, with their grappling hooks, with everything they had to assist us, that was a big difference,” said Keller.

Keller says the two fires in close proximity in recycling yards is a coincidence. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.

The fire is now extinguished, and Phoenix Fire does not have any more units on scene.
