The Yavapai County Recorder’s Office is warning residents about solicitors trying to obtain personal voting information by impersonating county employees. 

The Recorder’s Office got a recent call from a woman living in a retirement community in Prescott. She said someone, claiming they were conducting a survey, was ringing her home and about a dozen other residents from an intercom system at the gate, asking if they had voted in the 2020 election and who they voted for.

Yavapai County Recorder Leslie Hoffman said another Prescott resident reported someone came to their door inquiring about who lived there. 

“And when the homeowner said, ‘Who are you with?’ they said, 'We’re volunteers from the Yavapai County Recorder's Office,'" she said.

They were not.

Hoffman said both Prescott police and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office have been alerted to the incidents. She said county employees will never go door to door asking for personal information.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning for citizens to beware of people impersonating county employees seeking voter information. 

Anyone approached by individuals claiming to be county employees is encouraged to call the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office or Recorder’s Office.
