The Arizona Department of Health Services recently announced that it will be winding down the mass vaccination sites that marked the beginning of the end of the pandemic and will be transitioning to smaller, community-based vaccination sites.
For many, those massive vaccination sites were one of the major images from the pandemic that will forever stick in their minds, with a scale and scope unlike anything most of us have seen in our lifetimes.
Mark Tebeau, a professor of history at Arizona State University, has been leading a collaborative, international effort to create a public history of the pandemic called "A Journal of the Plague Year: An Archive of COVID-19."
The Show spoke with him to learn about the symbolism of these massive vaccination sites and what it means now that they’re coming down.
