Phoenix is one of 50 cities around the world that will be moving on to the next round of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge.

The competition, sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies, asked cities to take on some of their biggest challenges in the wake of the pandemic.

Phoenix’s entry looks to deal with unemployment and proposes “career mobility units;” Bloomberg describes this as addressing "a fundamental workforce challenge in a novel way."

Michael Hammett is deputy communications director for the city and the lead on the Bloomberg Mayor’s Challenge. The Show spoke with him to learn about this idea for career mobility units.
