Man Sentenced In Nogales Drug Tunnel Case
Federal authorities say a Mexican man in his 30s has been sentenced to more than three years in prison in connection with a drug tunnel under a house in Nogales, Arizona.
Agents found more than 200 pounds of methamphetamine when they searched the property 18 months ago.
Court records say Jovany Robledo-Delgado hid under a bed as federal agents raided a house located about a mile north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Investigators found a tunnel connected to a pipeline that runs between Mexico and Arizona. Plus large amounts of meth, fentanyl, cocaine and heroin.
Robledo pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle drugs through the underground system into the U.S.
His defense lawyer wrote that Robledo at first resisted an invitation to work for organized crime. But he relented when factory employment in Nogales, and a construction job in Phoenix didn’t pay enough to support his family.
