This past April, Gov. Doug Ducey signed a law declaring Arizona a “Second Amendment sanctuary state” — the law prevents the state of Arizona, its counties and municipalities from enforcing any federal gun laws that supersede those of the state’s. Ducey said the bill was “a proactive law for what is possible to come out of the Biden administration."

On June 22, the Tucson City Council passed a unanimous resolution that "federal laws or regulations that regulate firearms will have full effect within the city” — essentially saying the city of Tucson will not ignore federal firearms laws as per the state’s Second Amendment Firearm Freedom Act.

Tucson city officials are questioning the constitutionality of the state’s law, and Arizona gun rights advocates are ready to challenge federal gun laws they perceive as equally unconstitutional.

Tucson’s Mayor Regina Romero supports the council’s resolution, and The Show spoke with her to learn about the city's decision.\
