Being an Arizona state senator or representative is technically a part-time job, and it only pays $24,000 a year. But lawmakers also get a daily allowance — a per diem that’s supposed to cover the cost of their living expenses while traveling to and working at the state Capitol in Phoenix during legislative sessions.

At the end of June, those lawmakers voted to boost that daily allowance, at least for anyone representing a legislative district outside Maricopa County.

The Show spoke with KJZZ's Ben Giles to learn about this increase and how it came about.
