A group that’s part of the Koch network filed a freedom of information lawsuit this week that in part seeks patient wait-time data from VA health care facilities in Arizona.

Phoenix was at the center of a national scandal, which eventually led to bipartisan legislation signed in 2018.

The VA secretary said in March that millions of appointments were changed, canceled or delayed due to the pandemic.

The Americans for Prosperity Foundation is suing to see patient wait-time data, plus VA records on implementation of the Trump-era Mission Act, which grew veteran-access to private care.

The legal effort is backed by another Koch-supported group called Concerned Veterans for America.

“Right now in Arizona, along with a lot of the other states, you have veterans that fall in the criteria to get private care, but the gatekeeper and the barrier to that has been the VA,” said Joshua Stanwitz, national liaison and East Valley resident.

A VA spokesperson declined to comment on pending litigation.
