Street skateboarding made its debut as an Olympic Sport this weekend, and an Arizona native took home the bronze medal.

Jagger Eaton, of Mesa, had the second-highest total score in the preliminary rounds and the second-highest individual trick score of the contest.

Eaton won his preliminary heat with 35 points out of a possible 40, and scored a 9.4 on a single trick in the finals. He finished fewer than 2 points away from the gold medal.

Eaton is one of 18 Arizona natives participating in a dozen sports for Team USA. Mesa native Alana Smith also is competing in the inaugural women’s street skateboarding contest.
