Walmart Program To Pay 100% College Tuition, Books For Employees
The nation’s largest private employer is expanding educational opportunities for employees. On Tuesday, Walmart announced it will pay 100% of college tuition and books through its Live Better U program.
Walmart and Sam’s Club employees previously paid a dollar a day to take part in the program. Walmart said it plans to invest nearly a billion dollars over the next five years in career training and development.
In a news release, Lorraine Stomski, senior vice president of learning and leadership, said the expansion includes additional college degree and certification options in business administration, supply chain and cybersecurity.
“This investment is another way we can support our associates to pursue their passion and purpose while removing barriers that too often keep adult working learners from obtaining degrees,” she said.
The education program allows employees to learn trade skills and earn college degrees through 60 programs offered by 10 academic partners, including the University of Arizona.
A Walmart spokesperson told KJZZ the company employs nearly 37,000 people in Arizona.
