Health Care Experts Pen Letter To Governor Calling For Enforced COVID-19 Restrictions In Schools

The delta variant continues to blaze across the country, infecting more — especially unvaccinated people — and sending more to the hospital.

At the same time, students are heading back to the classroom for the start of their fall semester.

Gov. Doug Ducey signed a law banning mask mandates, but the Phoenix Union High School District — and now the Phoenix Elementary School District — is requiring all students and staff to wear masks while on campus.

Local doctors are siding with the schools’ decisions. In a letter to the governor, 100 health care experts are highlighting their concerns as case numbers continue to rise.

To learn about those concerns, The Show spoke with one of the doctors who signed the letter, Dr. Jacqueline Carter, a local pediatrician and internist practicing in Tempe.
