The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's new eviction moratorium means renters who are behind on their rent payments cannot be kicked out of their homes for another 60 days — that’s if they live in a county with high or substantial COVID-19 transmission, which applies to all of Arizona’s 15 counties.

At the same time, Arizona has only sent out a fraction of the emergency rental assistance it received.

Joanna Carr estimates the state has spent less than 10% of its share of rental assistance, which means there’s a lot of money still out there for both renters and landlords.

Carr is the research and policy director at the Arizona Housing Coalition. The Show spoke with her to learn more about the state's rental assistance.
