Rocky Point Implements New COVID-19 Restrictions As Cases Rise

With COVID-19 cases rising across the state in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, the beach town Puerto Peñasco, or Rocky Point, is upping safety precautions.
While the popular tourist spot won’t be shutting off access to beaches for now, leaders announced Thursday they are reducing hours and capacity at some local establishments, including bars, restaurants and attractions like boat tours.
They’re also asking for events that could expose children under 15 to the virus to be put on hold, including parties, baptisms and youth sports. People under 18 are not yet eligible for vaccinations in Mexico.
Hand washing, social distancing and face masks are still required in all public places, and the city is also pushing for widespread vaccination.
The move comes just weeks after another beach destination, San Carlos, closed its shores and asked visitors not to come after reaching maximum risk on the state's coronavirus risk scale.
