The Valley’s roads have taken a hit this monsoon season with numerous reports of damage and road closures. Now that the storms have passed, repairs are underway.

There are about 2,500 miles of county roads in Maricopa County. Many of which have been damaged by the rains and flooding. The county’s repair team has been working on filling potholes, washed out roadways and removing fallen debris. KJZZ spoke with Jesse Gutierrez who is the deputy director of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.

“As we see some of the roads really getting deteriorated because of these storms we’re having to shift gears a little bit and put a little more focus on our pavement preservation program to address these needs," Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez says the county has about 150 people working on storm-related repairs across the county. He says the cost of those repairs have not yet been tallied, but he’s certain they will be higher than last years.
