After closing last weekend for roadway realignment, the newly constructed Pinto Creek bridge on U.S. 60 opened to traffic late Friday morning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation began the $22.7 million bridge replacement project in 2019. The original Pinto Creek bridge was built in 1949.

The new bridge, like the old structure, contains two lanes of traffic but adds two shoulders and the ability to carry more weight.

ADOT says the largest milestone of this project is complete, but drivers should expect periodic lane restrictions and delays in the area through the rest of this year.

Work to return the project site to its natural state, as well as the removal of the previous bridge, is expected to begin shortly.
