The City Council approved Phoenix Raceway’s request to paint yellow-checkered start and finish lines at four crosswalks.

A taste of NASCAR is coming to downtown Phoenix intersection as the stock racing giant revs up for a major event in the Valley.

NASCAR’s Championship Weekend will take place Nov. 5-7 at Phoenix Raceway. The track is located in Avondale but signs of the event will also be visible 20 miles away in downtown Phoenix. 

On Wednesday, the City Council approved Phoenix Raceway’s request to paint yellow-checkered start and finish lines at four crosswalks.

The markings will surround the intersection of Third and Van Buren streets starting Oct. 24 and running through the championship weekend. 

Phoenix Raceway will cover installation and removal costs.
