Pfizer is seeking emergency U.S. authorization for its COVID-19 vaccination for kids between the ages of 5 and 11.

Dr. Shad Marvasti with the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix says if the vaccine is approved, it will be a game changer.

“This is great news and it will have a huge impact once it is approved, because of the outbreaks among school-age children, particularly in that group under 12, where we have seen record numbers of COVID infections," Marvasti said.

Marvasti says he hopes most parents will allow their kids to get the vaccine. He says once it gets full final approval, he expects the COVID-19 vaccine will be required for school children like other vaccines.
