The Andromeda galaxy is the most massive in the group of galaxies that includes the Milky Way.

Why did some galaxies run out of the gas needed to make new stars, very early on in their existence? And what might that mean for other galaxies, including our own?

New research from the University of Arizona has been looking into this.

Astronomer Christina Williams, an  assistant research professor at the university, is working on that effort.

The Show spoke with her to learn about her findings.
