Democrat Sarah Liguori appointed to represent Legislative District 28
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Democrat Sarah Liguori to fill a vacant seat in the Arizona House of Representatives.
Liguori replaces former Rep. Aaron Lieberman, who resigned from the House in September to focus on running for governor.
“Sarah Liguori is a working mom who understands her district," Republican Supervisor Bill Gates said in a statement. "All the people nominated were excellent, but Sarah brings a private sector background and an eye to the future of our state that will serve the residents of District 28 well.”
Supervisors were required by law to appoint a Democrat to replace Lieberman. Liguori is a precinct committeeman in Legislative District 28, which covers north central Phoenix, but has never before run for office. She’ll serve the remainder of Lieberman’s term, through 2022.
"I have loved living in Legislative District [28] and am proud of the work we have done to elect amazing Democrats," Liguori said in a statement released by the House Democratic caucus. "I look forward to this opportunity and strive to provide positive change to all people of Arizona."
There are still four more empty seats to be filled at the Arizona Capitol.
Pima County supervisors have scheduled a vote to appoint a new state senator in Legislative District 10 tomorrow. And three more vacancies remain in the House, in Legislative Districts 8, 11 and 30.
