Misinformation about COVID-19 — and the vaccines designed to fight it — has been spreading almost as fast as the virus itself. And it's been spreading even more so in immigrant and refugee communities where language barriers and lack of access to health care have put people in vulnerable positions.

To combat the rampant misinformation regarding the severity of the disease and the efficacy of the vaccine, Valleywise Health is releasing a series of videos in 11 different languages targeting refugees so they know the vaccine is safe to get — despite what might be circulating online.

Arabic, Burmese and S’gaw Karen are just a handful of the languages covered.

Dr. Crista Johnson-Agbakwu is the founding director of the Refugee Women's Health Clinic at Valleywise Health.

The Show spoke with her to learn about these videos and just how hard the refugee community here has been hit by COVID-19.
