Arizona has put nearly $6 million toward a transitional housing project in Flagstaff intended to help people who don’t have a home.

The money came from federal COVID-19 relief funds and is being put toward a project by Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona, which used the money to buy a hotel on East Route 66.

Devonna McLaughlin is Housing Solution’s CEO.

"We’re going to add kitchenettes to each of the rooms to create independent studio units. We are going to do some safety upgrades like sprinkler systems and some ADA accessibility upgrades and then once those are complete, our intent is to provide transitional housing to households experiencing homelessness," she said.

About another $10 million went to similar projects to support the state’s homeless population in Kingman and Phoenix.
