The Biden administration’s Infrastructure and Investment Act passed on Monday, and transportation policy makers met Wednesday to discuss its potential impacts on Arizona.

The Maricopa Association of Government Transportation Policy Committee discussed the general disbursement plan for the funds. There are currently no specifics as to where the money will be allocated, but more than $5 billion will go toward funding for highways.

“We expect that we’ll be able to leverage this money with our regional freeway programs and future widenings that we have planned on 101 Agua Fria and 202 San Tan. Those are projects that are likely to happen sooner than they otherwise would given this additional funding," said John Bullen, a program manager with the Maricopa Association of Government.

Bullen says the funds came at the perfect time and will allow the region to prioritize much needed improvements.
