Mesa Fire Station 221 opened in November 2021 and houses an engine crew and an ambulance crew.

The fast-growing southeast area of Mesa now has a new fire station.

As part of fire service tradition, Mesa held a hose uncoupling ceremony on Nov. 18 to mark the opening. The station is located between Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport and a large residential community known as Eastmark.

“It’s going to have a big impact on the quality of life and of the safety of the residents of Mesa in this area,” said Mayor John Giles.

Located near Ray and Ellsworth roads in southeast Mesa, the station is designed so firefighters conduct decontamination procedures outside the building.

“We’re also excited this is going to be the future home of our new all electric fire truck, which again is the wave of the future. A few years from now, all fire trucks will be electric and so we are going to go-start that process and learn how to do this correctly at this fire station,” said Giles.

Eighteen people are alternating shifts to staff engine and ambulance crews. A 2018 bond approved by Mesa voters will fund the $5.9 million project.
