The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted last Wednesday to pursue legal action against the city of Tucson over water rates for rural residents.

The supervisors said they reached out to the city in August, but had not received a response.

At issue is the fact that some Pima County residents will be hit with higher water rates while others will not.

"What we were doing as the majority on the Board of Supervisors, is advocating for the interests of our constituents who are going to be hit with these higher rates, because since they live outside the city limits they have no voice in city government," said Supervisor Rex Scott.

The city receives some of its water from the Central Arizona Project, which has been hard hit by an ongoing drought. Scott said that shortage makes collaborative dialogue on water issues critical.
