U.S. Supreme Court appointments have been an extremely political exercise for several decades. And the disputes between the left and the right became even harsher when then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to consider then-President Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the high court, but arguably rushed through the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Bob Robb of the Republic wrote recently about why the response to that should be the possibility of term limits for the court rather than adding justices.
