Sonora’s largest public university is set to restart in-person classes this month. It’s the first time students will be allowed back in the classroom since the start of the pandemic.

Nearly two years after the University of Sonora transitioned to virtual learning amid the pandemic, leaders say students will be back on campus again starting Jan. 10.

The reopening will be gradual, with graduate and laboratory classes and programs with fewer than 20 students enrolled returning first. Other degree programs will follow a hybrid model, according to a statement from the university.

Leaders say precautions will include a mandatory course on safely returning to campus, high quality face coverings and social distancing in all indoor and outdoor settings. Anyone experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 will not be allowed on campus.
