As COVID-19 cases continue to rise due to the more contagious omicron variant, Embry Health says it has set a new daily record for testing appointments in Arizona.

The health care system says more than 26,000 appointments were made for Wednesday, after nearly 25,000 people scheduled appointments for Tuesday.

Embry averaged between 16,000-17,000 appointments per day for the last week, an increase of about 60% from the previous week.

As of Tuesday, Embry says its seven-day average of positive cases is 19.6%, another record high.

Embry says it will have nine testing sites open on New Year’s Day, and has plans to add 100 new testing locations in nationwide by the end of January.
