The Show regularly checks in with the editorial board of the Arizona Republic to talk about current issues facing the state and the region — featured in columns on the newspaper’s op-ed pages.

One of the biggest stories of 2021 in Arizona was the so-called audit of Maricopa County ballots from the 2020 election, as supporters of former President Donald Trump tried to solidify unproven claims that the election had been stolen from him.

Some Republican elected officials in the state fought back against those efforts, and the Republic named six of them as the paper's Arizonans of the Year. The six are Maricopa County Supervisors Bill Gates, Clint Hickman and Jack Sellers; Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer; state Sen. Paul Boyer and House Speaker Rusty Bowers.

The Show spoke with Phil Boas of the Republic's editorial board to find out how difficult or easy the choice was for them.
