Kids across Arizona are back in school after winter break this week, even as the omicron variant has led to increased case numbers and hospitalizations in Arizona and across the country. And different schools are managing it in different ways.

From mask requirements to virtual learning, consensus is hard to come by, and school boards are bearing the brunt of the decision-making.

Chris Kotterman is the director of governmental relations for the Arizona School Boards Association.

The Show spoke with him to learn about the challenge facing schools in making these decisions.

The Show also spoke with one teacher who is heading back into the classroom this week.

Beth Lewis teaches third grade, and The Show spoke with her to learn about both the challenges and satisfying moments in the classroom last fall, and how she’s feeling as 2022 opens.
