The pandemic has created hardships for students across Arizona and the nation. During his final State of the State address, Gov. Doug Ducey announced a program to provide a way for those students to catch up on what they missed. 

This summer, the governor is providing $100 million for a program to provide voluntary education-focused summer camps. The time frame is not set yet, but Ducey estimates it will last eight to 10 weeks between May and July. 

"The objective here is a summer camp to catch our kids up who have fallen behind in math and reading and other skills, along with additional subjects we can reinforce, like American civics," Ducey said. 

The plan is to hire teachers from A-, B-, and C-ranked schools, or teachers from lower ranked schools with notable performance. The program will be open to all public school students, including students in charter schools.
